What it's about
This bit will evolve, because I seem to change my mind with regard to what The Mischievous is about every other week. Almost as if it's not mine.
And no, it was not generated by some AI roboscribbler. It came out of my own organically grown head. Was typed by my eco-hands. But I didn't have a lot of control over the characters. Once I'd created those mischievous little monsters, they gained a life of their own and told me what they were going to do next. I'm still finding out who they all really are. I'm sure they'll reappear some time in the future to show us a little more about themselves. Things we might already suspect, but haven't yet had confirmed. There's definitely more darkness that could emerge from the lighter characters. And, conversely, more light from the nastier ones.
I know that this probably sounds strange. That the story wrote itself. But it's true. And is what makes writing so much fun. At least for me. If you haven't already, you should give it a try.
This story was never originally intended to be released into the wild. It was a personal project. A way to investigate ideas. Process experiences. But some people heard about it, asked to read it, and then hassled me to make it available.

I suppose at its core, The Mischievous is a story about different lives and how they evolve. How people get to where they currently are, and where they're going. The events and decisions that made them who they are, and those that continue to mould them until the very end, whenever and however that end may come. And whether/how they cause that end through that long sequence of behaviour and consequences.

It's also a story about motivations and hope. Each of the characters hope to get something quite different in return for the energies they put into exactly the same pursuit. Wealth, knowledge, power, a job, a revitalisation of their life, the downfall of another person. And some hope that the pursuit fails.

Human behaviour, and what drives it is something I'm interested in. Especially the difficulty we have in admitting, or even recognising our real motivations. And how those that do understand our real motivations can influence those who either genuinely don't understand their own driving forces, or, more often, refuse to understand them.

The overall story is broken into three big chunks. Books 1 to 3 are the first chunk, 4 to 7 are the second chunk, and 8 to I'm-not-quite-sure-yet-as-9-onwards-are-still-being-revised-and-rewritten is the third - and probably final - chunk.

The story starts in Sweden, but wanders all over the globe. Though Sweden is its home.

The goal of the story is entertainment. Total escapist fiction. Some of the story is based on real facts that I found a bit crazy and uncomfortable, but it really only leans up against them. Just enough to give more meat to some of the madder scenes in the books - truth is usually stranger than fiction. I have been asked by a number of readers what is real in the books and what is fiction - it's all fiction. But sometimes, usually the stranger parts of the story, the parts that will have you shaking your head, get very close to the truth.

Give The Mischievous a try. Most find it fun. Funny. Different. And want more. And so the story will continue to grow as long as Mats, John, Eva and all of the other characters continue to misbehave.

I hope you give it a try, and that you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it. Thanks.
